The Sagkeeng HeadStart Program is seeking a dedicated Bus Monitor. Bus Monitors assist the bus driver during the trip to and from HeadStart program each day by supervising the activity of, and caring for, children with varying needs. This may include loading, securing, and unloading children onto the bus. Physical demands may include kneeling, bending, sitting for long periods and lifting equipment or students and may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold or humidity.

DUTIES:

  • Overseeing students to ensure they remain seated.
  • Helping with loading and unloading students, securing them properly in their seats.
  • Acting as a point of contact for parents, guardians and school staff and reporting any incidents or behavioral issues.
  • Assist bus driver by managing student behavior, mediating disputes and addressing misbehavior to maintain order.
  • Document any incidents or injuries that may occur on the bus.
  • Provide individualized assistance to students with special needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent
  • Experience working with Children
  • Experience and comfort using computers
  • Experience in caring for infants & young children
  • First Aid/CPR is an asset
  • Current Criminal /Child Abuse Registry checks
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, teamwork attributes and cultural sensitivity
  • Knowledge and awareness of First Nations culture
