The Jordan’s Principle program is hiring a fulltime Land-Based Worker to assist in providing land-based activities and education to the youth of Sagkeeng. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and skills in land-based activities and will be able to provide a safe and fun environment for children/youth to learn.

DUTIES:

  • Work with the Land-based Coordinator to plan, organize, and facilitate land-based activities for children and youth in the community,
  • Provide land-based education to individuals and groups of youth as required,
  • Provide safe and fun supervision and care to children during planned activities and as directed,
  • Work one-on-one with youth/children or groups of children as assigned,
  • Assist with program reporting as required,
  • Document all activities/events and individual encounters as per Sagkeeng Health Centre and Jordan’s Principle protocols and provide regular reports to the Land Based Coordinator or others as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge of skills in several of the following land-based areas:
    • Hunting
    • Trapping
    • Fishing
    • Boating
    • Off-road vehicle operation and basic maintenance
    • Survival skills (i.e. fire building, knots, back country navigation, shelter building, etc.)
    • Medicine picking and plant/tree identification
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and facilitate education to small and large groups of children and youth
  • Experience providing care and support to persons with disabilities of any age is an asset
  • Training in First Aid/CPR, Food Handler’s, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset, however training can be provided
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and willing to obtain Class 4
  • Basic written communication skills
  • Clear and current Vulnerable Sector check and Child Abuse Registry Check are required
