The Home Visitor is responsible for providing supportive home visitation for pregnant women and families with infants and young children (ages 0-6) that encourages the growth of nurturing, responsive parent-child relationships, provides linkages with community resources and promotes healthy childhood growth and development.
DUTIES:
- Providing home visits, group sessions and various health promotion activities in accordance with the MCH-Strengthening Families mandate.
- Assist in coordinating and organizing regular & special activities including workshops, presentations and displays.
- Schedule regular home visits to families in the program.
- Assist in promotion of breast feeding and supporting mother and family while breast feeding.
- Assist in conducting developmental screening, physical exams, and pre and postnatal screening exams on mothers, infants, toddlers and children.
- Coordinate referrals to programs & resources within and outside the community.
- Attend regular staff meetings and nurse supervision meetings for purpose of reviewing families, exchanging information on participant services, planning program activities and for all other program related communications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in relevant field considered an asset
- Experience and comfort using computers is a must
- Experience in caring for infants & young children
- Previous parenting classes and/or training an asset
- Basic breast-feeding knowledge & willingness to obtain training
- Minimum Class 5 Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle
- First Aid/CPR is an asset
- Current Criminal /Child Abuse Registry checks
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, teamwork attributes and cultural sensitivity
- Knowledge and awareness of First Nations culture
