Health Care Aide (HCA) provides and coordinates individualized care and resources to elders, disabled and others so that they may continue to live in their homes, supported housing and/or in the community. Health Care may include assistance with ambulation/positioning, assistance with the elimination of bodily waste, household management, and/or assistance with nutritional and medication intake etc.
The HCA is also responsible for documenting and charting all services and care provided to each client in accordance with Health Canada and Sagkeeng Health Centre standards and will protect client privacy and confidentiality at all times. The HCA will ensure that all Home Care is provided in a caring and respectful way in keeping with all relevant policies and procedures.
DUTIES:
- Provides supportive and personal care to home care clients,
- Supports and assists client in activities of daily living,
- Assist with ambulation, transfer, and positioning,
- Ensures medication is taken as directed by care plan,
- Provides for the elimination of bodily waste including assist with toileting,
- Provides specially authorized personal care that requires client specific training,
- Follows program policy and procedure for maintaining a sanitary environment and prevents the spread of communicable diseases,
- Follows communicable disease protocol for universal precautions for handling blood and body fluids,
- Provides household management and laundry,
- Maintains a safe and sanitary environment,
- Provides for client nutritional intake.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have Health Care Aide Certificate from an accredited institution
- CPR/ First Aid,
- Must have valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license,
- Must have access to a reliable vehicle,
- Demonstrates a compassionate, caring, and thoughtful approach to patient care,
- Demonstrates ability to work with a team,
- Knowledge of First Nations communities, social and health services, challenges and opportunities unique to First Nation communities and programs,
- Vulnerable Sector Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check,
- Preference will be given to persons of aboriginal ancestry with priority given to Sagkeeng Band Members.
